Unusual discharge is often a sign of infection or inflammation, such as thrush (yeast infection) or bacterial vaginosis (bacterial infection of the vagina). It can be a sign of a sexually transmitted infection, so it's best to have it checked out. Vaginal discharge can have causes that aren't due to underlying disease. Examples include menstruation, sexual intercourse or certain hygienic methods such as douches and bidets.
